To optimise this process, Kyubi Medical has deployed an innovative traceability solution based on RFID cabinets, enabling exhaustive, real-time control of the essential materials used in hospitals.
1. RFID identification and stock control
The process begins by identifying every nursing and operating theatre material with RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tags. These tags are attached to each item, such as gauze, surgical instruments, syringes and gloves, and hold unique information about it: description, batch number and expiry date.
Once tagged, materials are placed in smart RFID cabinets installed both in nursing areas and in operating theatres. These cabinets deliver precise, automated inventory control, registering in real time every item that goes in or out.
2. Removing materials from the RFID cabinet
When a nurse or theatre assistant needs to take out materials for a procedure, they identify themselves with a personal RFID card. As the cabinet opens, the built-in RFID antennas automatically register every item removed, instantly updating the inventory in the central system.
This gives control with no manual intervention, reducing the risk of errors when items are taken out and guaranteeing an accurate record of what leaves the store.
3. Real-time traceability inside the hospital
Once materials have been removed from the cabinet, real-time traceability begins. Thanks to the RFID antennas installed throughout the hospital, these materials can be monitored on their route from the store to the operating theatre or the nursing area.
Every time the person carrying the materials passes an RFID antenna, the system automatically updates their location, giving a clear, real-time view of where they are at any moment.
This level of traceability not only improves operational efficiency, it also ensures materials are available in the right place when they are most needed, optimising hospital workflow.
